Road Trip Shopping with Crossroads Trading Co.

I’m a firm believer that secondhand consignment stores embody the areas they’re located in. Some are sandwiched in between grungy areas, while others boast of hip and trendy name brands. It’s all about catering to what your customers want to buy.

That being said, it seemed only natural to explore the areas around each Crossroads Trading Co. location while I was on my California road trip. Here’s how each Crossroads Trading Co. differed depending on the city:

Lifestyle host and expert, Melanie Sutrathada, visits Crossroads Trading Co.

San Francisco

In San Francisco, the Crossroads is located smack dab in the middle of all of the magic that Haight and Ashbury has to offer. Walk a few steps out of the storefront and you’ll discover the famous Haight and Ashbury street corner that was the birthplace of the hippie culture in the 1960s. The vibrant area empowered the generation’s youth, calling for love and peace in the midst of a political revolution. 50 years later, and the area is teeming with remnants of what made this area sparkle and shine back in the 1960s.

An abundance of the hippie style and perspective has spilled over into San Francisco style and fashion. The area is filled with creative and progressive leaders, which explains their versatile style that ranges from artistic to unconventional to bohemian chic. Santa Barbara

Located 1.5 hours north of Los Angeles, Santa Barbara is known for its consistently sunny weather, picturesque coastlines, and its exhaustive list of outdoor activities. Due to Santa Barbara’s youthful demographic and the city’s charm of moving at a slower pace, the fashion leans towards laid-back, casual, athleisure and beach attire. In any given season, fashionistas can be seen wearing anything strappy sandals, sundresses, crop tops, high-waisted shorts, and a stylish pair of sunglasses. Examples of some of the cutest things I found are herehere and here.

When I entered the Crossroads on Upper State Street, I found an abundance of clothing that would be perfect for a warm spring day or a summer vacation. The effortlessly cute attire definitely reflected the laid-back nature of the city.

Los Angeles

You can always count on Los Angeles fashion to be the perfect balance between put-together and trendsetting. It’s safe to say that the city’s fashion has been influenced by the close proximity to Hollywood, the entertainment industry and the fashion district.

Depending on which neighborhood of Los Angeles you’re in, you’ll experience an eclectic taste in fashion sense. You’ll spot people styling more urban, trendier or highly curated outfits. People draw their inspiration from being close to the beach, the lively music scene, the suburbs, and the weather. When it comes to LA fashion, one thing is for sure – the more unique, the better! I fell in love with the pieces here and here.
