How to Give Back on Giving Tuesday.

It’s officially #GivingTuesday! Giving Tuesday is a global day of giving fueled by the power of social media and collaboration that is celebrated the Tuesday following Thanksgiving. Get into the spirit of the season by giving back just in time for the holidays. Whether you’re looking to donate blood or put together a fundraiser for your favorite cause, there are tons of different opportunities to make a difference in this global giving movement today.

Here are some of my favorite ways to give back on Giving Tuesday:

Give time:

Looking to volunteer this week? Search for non-profits in your neighborhood using this tool to find out what’s happening near you.

Project Glimmer:

One of my favorite ways to donate my time is through Project Glimmer, an organization that focuses on making every girl and woman feel special by inspiring them to believe in themselves. Some of the ways to help out this season through Project Glimmer are by volunteering to help wrap gifts on the organization’s Boxing Day, which makes the holidays happen for thousands of foster youth, girls and women. Another great way to help out this Giving Tuesday is to host a Glimmer Drive, which is an invitation to all of your friends or family to gather up and bring unused beauty products, jewelry or any kind of accessory that you don't use anymore. I held my first Glimmer Drive this past year and loved seeing everyone come together to wrap and pack gifts for young girls!

She Should Run:

It’s a fact that women aren’t equally represented in American government. That’s why She Should Run, the nonprofit whose mission is to expand the talent pool of women running for office in the United States, was created. This organization has encouraged over 100,000 women from all walks of life to consider public office. Giving your time to volunteer with nonprofits like She Should Run that are dedicated to diversifying leadership is a great way to make sure your voice is heard. Whether you plan to run for office yourself or are supporting a friend or neighbor who is looking to have a seat at the table, She Should Run is a great place to start. Join the growing movement of future women elected leaders!

Give money:

Donate to a nonprofit or community organization that's working on a cause that matters to you. Here are some organizations that I adore:

CARE:

In honor of #GivingTuesday, make a poverty-fighting gift to CARE to help women create a brighter future for themselves and their families. Your #GivingTuesday donation can help feed a hungry child, send a girl to school, keep a mom and infant healthy during pregnancy and childbirth, and more. From now through December 31st, your donation to CARE will be matched – dollar for dollar, up to $1 million, helping your #GivingTuesday donation go twice as far in making a difference for children and families in need.

Global Girls Alliance:

Join the Global Girls Alliance in supporting grassroots leaders around the world who are doing vital work to empower girls through education so they can, in turn, transform their families, communities, and countries. The future of our world is only as bright as our girls. Make a donation today to empower girls around the world through education.

She’s the First:

She’s the First supports girls who will be the first in their families to graduate high school because their vision is a future of of gender equality. Their goal this #GivingTuesday is to fully fund one group of She’s the First Scholars in India. They call themselves Igniting Change, because, "we may just be a spark in the universe, but a spark can lead to a wildfire of change." These STF Scholars in the 10th-12th grades are nearing their graduation—the first in their families to graduate from high school.

Women for Women International:

This amazing organization supports survivors of war in 10 conflict-affected countries around the world and helps them to rebuild their lives from the ground up. Women for Women International has helped more than 478,000 marginalized women affected by war and conflict and today, you can make twice the impact for a woman and her family. If you give a gift for #GivingTuesday by November 27th, your gift will be doubled up to $20,000!

Give donations:

Beauty Bus Foundation:

Their mission is to give beauty services to chronically or terminally ill patients. This organization tries to provide a momentary escape from the disease and lift their spirits, so they often give bags of beauty to the patients and make them feel special. To contribute with Beauty Bus, you can donate beauty products such as makeup, nail polish, lotion, or any other beauty item you can think of.

Dress for Success:

This organization cares about women empowerment, confidence, and giving women all the development tools in order to help them succeed. They receive just about anything that could help a woman look more professional, from formal clothes to shoes and beauty products. So if you have a pair of heels on the corner of your closet or a forgotten jacket, contact Dress For Success and start donating. You'll see how good it feels!

Give Period Products to Your Local Homeless & Domestic Violence Shelters.

As an Always ambassador, I learned this year that nearly one in five American girls have either left school early or missed school entirely because they did not have access to period products. But, did you also know that there is a huge lack of feminine hygiene products for homeless women and at shelters? The lack of access to menstrual health products for people who are either homeless or low-income are not covered by most welfare programs, which leaves tons of women and young girls without the products many of us take for granted. One way to give back this Giving Tuesday is to give period products to your local shelter this season!

Give your talent:

Use your skills to help nonprofits with their campaigns this Giving Tuesday. An easy way to start is by searching for pro bono opportunities on Taproot+ or by reaching out to your local nonprofits to see how you can use your talents to good.
