You know why most people bail on their New Years resolutions after a month or so? Because they’re trying too hard! You’ve probably told yourself a billion times already: “Okay, no more sweets, carbs or midnight snacks!” And you know what happens? You just put unnecessary pressure on yourself; you start counting every calorie, you feel guilty after you indulge in a decadent treat…and that’s no way to live!

That’s why instead of making drastic changes and hating yourself because you couldn’t meet your crazy requirements, you should focus on implementing some simple changes that will improve your health in the long run.

So, let’s check out these 10 easy ways on how to transform your health this year:

1. Take the stairs instead of the elevator.

Lifestyle changes start with baby steps! You don’t have to join the gym to up your fitness game, simply swap the usual elevator/escalator ride with a walk on the stairs.

2. Drink more fruits.

Wait, what? If you don’t have a habit of eating fruits regularly, the best way to increase your fruit (and veggie) intake is to drink colorful smoothies! Fortunately, there are tons of delish smoothie recipes out there that can help you start your day.

3. Bring healthy snacks to the office.

Almonds, walnuts, raisins, granola bars, dried fruits – the possibilities are endless! I also love a small bag of Skinny Pop or some Justin’s almond butter.

4. Deskercise!

You might get a few strange looks at the office, but exercising while sitting at your desk is a great way to get active.

5. Take walking meetings instead of regular ones.

Discuss your business matters on the go!

6. Up your water intake.

No, you don’t need to give up coffee or god forbid wine, but just drink more water, it’ll do you good.

7. Take a break every hour.

It doesn’t matter if you’re sitting at your office desk or slouching on the couch – take a break. Stand up, stretch out a bit or take a short walk. Not only are you doing your body a favor, but it also helps rest your eyes and your mind.

8. Don’t sacrifice your sleep!

Sleep is essential, as it will keep both your body and your mind steady. Remember – productivity is not measured by a lack of sleep. Get some rest!

9. Schedule your meals.

You don’t have to switch to a 100% organic, veggie, gluten-free diet right away. Instead, start by eating at regular intervals throughout the day. It will help regulate your metabolism and reduce the need for snacks.

10. Reserve an hour every day for something you love.

Your health doesn’t start and end with your physical health. Your mental health is just as important. No matter how busy you are, make sure to find time, every day, to watch your favorite show, read a book or hang out with friends. It will do wonders for you!

Remember, improving your health is a lengthy process and you can’t expect the results to appear overnight. But, the sooner you start implementing these changes the better. Make this year count; take one step every day and soon you’ll find yourself at the top!
